Quick start

What it does. Sell over a counter: a register with barcode scanning, held carts, split payment and counter returns, plus cashier shifts, cash-drawer checks and end-of-day reports. Uses the same products, stock and orders as your online store.

Who can use it

  • Off until you switch it on.
  • Your plan decides whether you can use it. The module card in Settings → Modules shows Not in your plan (with See plans) or Paid add-on (with Buy add-on) when it is not included. The features list shows which plans include it.

Switch it on

  1. In your admin, open Settings → Modules.
  2. Find Point of Sale. If it is on the Installed tab, click Enable; if not, open the Browse tab and click Install.
  3. It needs Warehouses & Multi-location Stock. Switch it on first if the card asks.
  4. Click Configure to change any setting below (the defaults work for most stores).

Switching it off later stops it working but keeps its data, so switching it back on picks up where you left off.

Where to find it

  • Sales → Registers
  • Sales → Charges
  • Sales → POS preferences

Settings

  • Require an open shift before selling — On by default. With it off, a sale can be rung up with no cashier session, and the cash it took belongs to no shift — which is what makes a drawer impossible to reconcile. Default: on.
  • Allow selling below zero stock — Off by default. A counter sale of stock the system says you do not have is usually a counting error, not a backorder. Default: off.
  • Allow parking a cart to serve the next customer — On by default. With it off a cashier cannot park a sale mid-transaction; carts already parked can still be resumed or discarded, so nothing is stranded. Default: on.
  • Require a manager PIN to refund — Off by default, so nothing changes for a shop already refunding at the counter. With it on, a counter refund needs the PIN of someone marked "can approve" on the staff roster, and every approval is recorded against the amount it authorised. Set PINs under POS → Cashiers & Shifts. Default: off.
  • Discount above which a manager PIN is required — In minor units (500 = 5.00). 0 disables the check, which is what every till did before this setting existed. A counter discount larger than this needs the PIN of someone marked "can approve" — the discount is refused before the sale is written, so nothing is left half-done. Default: 0.
