Offer a discount for paying online
A prepaid order is not returned unpaid. Turn on Offer a discount for paying online and COD customers are offered a discount to pay online instead of on delivery.
Where customers see it
- On the order confirmation page, right after they place a COD order: "Pay online now and save ₹50.00" with a Pay ₹950.00 online button.
- On their order page in their account.
- In your WhatsApp reply when they tap Confirm order: "Prefer to pay online? Pay ₹950.00 now and save ₹50.00: <link>".
The button and the link open a short page with the amount on delivery, the discount and what they pay now, then your store's own online payment step.
The discount
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Discount type | Percent of the amount due or Fixed amount. |
| Discount | A whole percent from 1 to 50, or an amount in your store currency. Tax included: the customer saves exactly this. |
| Most it takes off | For a percent discount, a cap in your store currency. 0 means no cap. |
If the order carried a Cash on Delivery fee (a payment fee on your COD method), paying online drops it too, and the page shows it.
What happens when the customer pays
- Nothing about the order changes until the payment goes through.
- When it does, the order becomes a prepaid order paid with that method: the discount is added to the order's discounts (spread over its items, with the tax on them reduced to match), the COD fee is removed, and the total is what the customer paid. The order is marked paid, and a note on the order says what changed.
- Couriers book it as prepaid: nothing is collected on delivery.
While a payment is in progress (up to 30 minutes), the order is held from couriers so it can't be booked as COD at the same moment.
Never paid twice
- A customer can start only one payment at a time for an order.
- A declined or abandoned payment never cancels the COD order. The customer can try again, or pay on delivery.
- If a payment arrives after the order shipped as COD, was cancelled or was changed, the order is left as it is and the payment is refunded automatically. If the refund fails, your team gets a Refund needed alert and the order note says to refund it from the payment provider's dashboard.
Which payment methods
Your store's online methods through Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay, Paytm, PayU, PhonePe, Cashfree or CCAvenue that have no payment fee of their own. If none is available, the settings show No online payment method can take the offer. Orders split between several sellers are confirmed but not offered the discount.
