Test, then go live

PayU has a test (sandbox) environment that takes no real money. Use it before you go live.

1. Ask PayU for test (UAT) credentials, or use the test key and salt in your PayU dashboard.
2. Set the method's Environment to Test (sandbox) and enter the test key and salt.
3. Open your store in a private (incognito) window and place a few test orders:
   • a successful payment with one of PayU's test cards or test UPI IDs;
   • a payment you cancel on PayU's page;
   • a payment that fails.
4. Check each order in Sales → Orders: the successful one is Processing (paid), the cancelled and failed ones are Incomplete.
5. When everything looks right, edit the method, switch Environment to Live (production) and paste your live Merchant Key and Salt. Save.
6. Place one small real order and refund it (see Orders, failed payments and refunds) to confirm money moves both ways.

Test keys only work in test mode and live keys only in live mode. A mismatch is the most common reason payments fail right after going live.
