Questions and fixes
My feed isn't showing on the store
Go through these in order:
- Is the module on? The Instagram Feed module must be on in Modules. While it is off, the feed block shows nothing.
- Is an account connected? Marketing → Instagram Feed must show your account card, not the Connect with Instagram panel.
- Is the block on a page? The feed appears only where you add the Instagram feed block (Add block → Social → Instagram feed). See Add the feed to a page in the overview.
- Are any posts visible? On the Posts tab, at least one post must have Show on store on. If Show new posts automatically is off, new posts arrive hidden until you switch them on.
- Does the account card show an error? It says what happened and what to do. See What the sync messages mean below.
Does the feed update by itself?
Yes. Your store checks Instagram for new and deleted posts on its own. The Check for new posts every setting on the Display tab decides how often, from every hour to once a day; the default is every 6 hours.
- New posts are added to the Posts tab.
- Posts you deleted on Instagram are removed from your store, with their tags.
- Sync now on the account card checks straight away. It runs at most once every 5 minutes.
The connection to Instagram is renewed automatically before it expires, so you don't have to sign in again every few weeks.
Can I choose which posts appear?
Yes. On the Posts tab:
- switch Show on store off for any post you don't want on your store;
- use Pin to keep posts at the front. Pinned posts come first, then the newest.
Your store keeps up to your latest 50 Instagram posts. The block shows the number set in Posts to show, or the number set on that block.
What happens when a shopper taps a post?
You choose this with When a shopper taps a post on the Display tab:
- On your store (the default): the post opens in a window on your store, with its picture, caption and date, and each tagged product with its price and Add to cart. A View on Instagram link opens the original post in a new tab.
- On Instagram: the post opens on Instagram in a new tab.
I changed my Instagram username. Do I need to reconnect?
No. The connection belongs to the account, not the name. The next sync picks up the new username and profile picture, and the feed's Follow on Instagram button uses the new name.
Can I disconnect the feed?
Yes. Choose Disconnect on the account card and confirm.
- Your store deletes the imported posts, its copies of their pictures and their product tags.
- The feed block stops showing.
- Nothing changes on your Instagram account.
To show the feed again, choose Connect with Instagram. Your posts are imported again, but posts you had hidden or pinned and products you had tagged start fresh.
It says my account is a personal account
Only Business and Creator accounts can connect; Instagram doesn't allow shops to use personal accounts.
To switch, open the Instagram app, go to your profile, tap the menu, then Settings and privacy → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account. Switching is free and keeps your posts and followers. Then choose Connect with Instagram again.
Instagram shows an error when I try to connect
- The connect link timed out or was already used: choose Connect with Instagram again and finish the sign-in within 10 minutes. Each link works once, for the admin who started it.
- The platform is waiting for Instagram's approval: while Meta reviews the platform's access, only accounts the platform has added for testing can connect. If Instagram's page refuses your account, contact support.
What the sync messages mean
The account card shows the last sync's problem in plain words:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Instagram no longer accepts this connection | Choose Reconnect and sign in again. This happens after a password change or when access was removed in Instagram. |
| This connection needs to be renewed | Choose Reconnect. |
| Instagram asked us to slow down | Nothing. The feed syncs again by itself shortly. |
| Instagram had a problem sending your posts | Nothing. The feed tries again at the next sync. |
| Instagram couldn't be reached | Nothing. The feed tries again at the next sync. |
While Reconnect Instagram shows, the posts already on your store keep showing, but new ones can't be fetched until you reconnect.
