What is OTP Verification?

OTP Verification sends a one-time code (OTP) by email or SMS to prove a customer really owns that email or phone number. It is the same kind of 6-digit code shoppers get from their bank or from food delivery apps.

Where you can use it

  • Login without a password. Customers enter their email or phone, get a code, and are signed in. No forgotten passwords.
  • Verify new accounts. Ask for a code on the email, the phone, or both before a new account is created. This stops fake sign-ups.
  • Verify before checkout. Block order placement until the shopper's email or phone is confirmed. Useful against fake cash-on-delivery orders.
  • Confirm a changed email or phone. When a customer (or seller) changes their email or phone in their profile, they must enter a code sent to the new one.

Email or SMS (and WhatsApp)

  • Email codes work as soon as the module is on.
  • SMS codes need an SMS provider set up (see SMS Notifications). In India, the SMS template must be DLT-registered, or networks drop messages to +91 numbers.
  • WhatsApp can carry codes when it is set up on the Messaging page and added to the delivery order.

If no phone route is ready, customers are simply offered email codes.
