Gift Certificates

Questions

Does a gift certificate reduce my sales or tax? No. It is a way of paying; the order's price and tax are unchanged.

Is a gift card sale counted as revenue? No. Selling one is money received in advance, not an order. Revenue and tax come when the card is spent on products.

The customer says the code doesn't work. Check the code in the list: it may be Used, Expired or Disabled, or typed wrongly. Codes are not case-sensitive. The customer can also check it at /gift-cards/balance.

A shopper paid but the recipient has no email. If the shopper chose a date, the email goes out on that date. Otherwise check the list: a bought card shows when it was sent. You can copy the code from the list and send it yourself.

Can I add more value to an existing code? No — create a new certificate.

Can I switch the module off? Yes. Codes and balances are kept and work again when you switch it back on; while it is off, shoppers cannot use or buy codes and scheduled emails wait.
