Getting started — API key + engine ID

You need two things from Google: an API key and a Search Engine ID. Both are free to create with any Google account.

1. Create the API key

1. Go to console.cloud.google.com and create a project (any name, for example "My store images").
2. Open APIs & Services → Library, search for Custom Search API, and click Enable.
3. Open APIs & Services → Credentials → Create credentials → API key. Copy the key.
4. Recommended: click the key, and under API restrictions allow only Custom Search API.

If Google does not let your project enable the Custom Search API, this module cannot work for your store.

2. Create the Search Engine ID

1. Go to programmablesearchengine.google.com and click Add.
2. Choose Search the entire web and switch Image search on.
3. Create it, open it, and copy the Search engine ID.

3. Connect them to your store

1. Open Settings → Modules, find Google Product Images, and switch it on.
2. Click Configure. Paste the Google API Key and the Search Engine ID (cx).
3. Save. The key is stored encrypted.

4. Try it

Open any product in Products → Products, scroll to Images, and click Search Google. Pictures should appear in a few seconds.
