PayU Checkout Express (Quick Checkout)

Edge cases and current limits

The shopper closes the sheet

No order, no change. The cart is kept exactly as it was. The session simply expires after 30 minutes.

The shopper pays, then closes the browser

Your store settles the payment from whichever confirmation reaches it first: the shopper's browser or PayU's return to your store. If one of them arrives, the order is created.

If neither arrives (for example, the shopper closed the tab right after paying and PayU's return was lost), your store checks with PayU itself. Every 5 minutes it asks PayU about Quick Checkout sessions that are still open, from 2 minutes to 2 hours after they started. A session PayU reports as paid becomes an order exactly as if the confirmation had arrived. In that case the shopper sees "We are still confirming your payment with PayU…" instead of the confirmation page, and the order appears within a few minutes.

The session expired, but PayU says paid

A session that timed out is still settled if PayU later confirms the payment. The order is created as normal.

The price changed while the sheet was open

The order uses the prices from the moment the shopper tapped the button. That is the amount PayU was asked to collect, so the order and the payment match.

An item sold out while the sheet was open

Stock is checked when the button is tapped and again before the order is created. It is not reserved in between. If an item sold out, the order is still created and flagged Sold out, so you can ship late or refund. See Orders flagged for review.

The cart changed in another tab

The order uses what was in the cart when Quick Checkout started. After the order is created, the cart is emptied, including anything added in the meantime.

Product page while the cart has other items

Buying from the product page uses only that product. The rest of the cart stays where it is, untouched.

You switch Quick Checkout off while a shopper is paying

The button disappears for new shoppers. A shopper who already paid still gets their order: the store keeps accepting the confirmation for sessions it already started.

The shopper's phone matches an existing customer

The order is attached to that customer account, even if the shopper was not signed in. PayU has verified the phone number with an OTP. If no account matches the phone or the email, the order is a guest order.

Guest checkout turned off

Signed-out shoppers do not see the button. Signed-in shoppers still do.

More than one seller in the cart

Shipping is priced per seller, with the cheapest delivery rate for each. The order is created through the same order process as the normal checkout.

Current limits

These are not supported yet:

  • Shipping per pincode. Shipping is fixed when the sheet opens, priced at your store's own location. It is not recalculated for the address the shopper picks.
  • Store coupon codes inside the sheet. Automatic promotions and PayU's own offers work. Typed coupon codes need the normal checkout.
  • A PayU server-to-server notification for Quick Checkout payments. Your store checks open sessions with PayU every 5 minutes instead (see above).
  • Saving PayU's address to a signed-in shopper's address book.
