What is PayU Quick Checkout?
Quick Checkout adds a Quick Checkout button to your storefront. It shows on the cart page, in the cart drawer and on the product page. The button opens PayU Checkout Express, a payment sheet run by PayU. Inside that one sheet the shopper:
- confirms their phone number with a one-time password (OTP);
- picks an address that PayU already knows for that phone number, or adds a new one;
- sees any offers you set up in your PayU dashboard;
- pays with UPI, cards, net banking, pay later (BNPL) or, if you allow it, cash on delivery (COD).
When PayU confirms the result, your store creates a normal order with the address PayU returned. The shopper never fills in your checkout form.
It is a setting, not a module
Quick Checkout is a switch on your PayU payment method. There is nothing to install and no module to enable. It uses the same Merchant Key, Salt and Environment as the PayU method it sits on, so there are no second credentials.
It is off by default. Your regular checkout keeps working exactly as before, whether Quick Checkout is on or off. Quick Checkout is an extra button, not a replacement.
What you get
- Fewer steps for the shopper. Phone, address and payment happen in one place.
- Normal orders. A Quick Checkout order is an ordinary order in Orders. It is fulfilled, shipped and refunded the same way as any other PayU order.
- Prices you control. Your store prices every item, discount and shipping fee on its own server. The browser cannot change them.
- An order only after PayU confirms. Nothing is created when a shopper closes the sheet or a payment fails. The cart is kept.
- Exactly one order per payment, even if the confirmation reaches your store twice.
- A review flag, not a silent problem. If something does not add up after payment (an address you do not deliver to, an item that sold out, an amount that does not match), the order is flagged and your admins are alerted. Nothing is refunded automatically.
What it does not do (yet)
- Shipping is set when the sheet opens. It is not recalculated for the shopper's pincode inside the sheet.
- Shoppers cannot type your store's coupon codes inside PayU's sheet. Automatic promotions and PayU's own offers do apply.
- PayU does not yet send your store a separate server-to-server notification for Quick Checkout payments. Your store asks PayU about open sessions every 5 minutes instead.
See Edge cases and current limits for what this means day to day.
Who it is for
Stores in India that already take payments with PayU and want a faster, phone-first checkout, similar to other one-tap checkout services.
