Sizes, colours and other variations
Use variations when one product comes in several options, such as a T-shirt in three sizes and two colours. Each combination gets its own price, stock, SKU and photos.
Set up variations
- On the product, tick This product has variations.
- Option 1 — type the option name, for example Size, and add its values (Small, Medium, Large). Press Enter after each value.
- Add another option for a second one, for example Color. For colours, tick This is a color option to pick a swatch colour for each value.
- CartWhizz generates every combination ({count} variants generated). In the table, set each variant's Price, Stock and SKU. Remove combinations you don't sell.
- Choose the Default variant: the one selected when the page opens, and whose price shows on product cards.
- Save the product.
The Total inventory line adds up the stock of all variants; the product's own stock is then calculated from them.
Images and descriptions per variant
- Click a value's image button to choose its photo (for example the red photo for Red).
- Description and image gallery on a variant lets you give it its own text and gallery. Leave them empty to use the product's.
- Custom gallery replaces all product images with that variant's selection when it is chosen.
- Videos for a variant are added to the product's videos when that option is picked. Save the product first, then add them.
Filters are created for you
Each option becomes a storefront filter (for example Size) when you save, so shoppers can filter category pages by it. If a similar filter already exists, CartWhizz suggests reusing it so you don't end up with "Colour" and "Color".
Good to know
- Product cards always show the price of the default variant.
- To change prices or stock for many variants quickly, use Import and export.
- Advanced: legacy parent-child variations exists only for products imported from older systems. New products should use the options above.
