Templates
Settings → Messaging → Templates lists your templates by channel, event and language.
What you can put in a message
Click a variable to insert it. It is replaced with real details when sent.
| Message | Variables |
|---|---|
| Order placed, paid, cancelled, refunded | customer name, order number, order total, store name, link |
| Order shipped, delivered | the above plus tracking link |
| One-time code | the code, store name |
| Offer | customer name, store name, coupon code, offer text, link |
A variable that the event doesn't provide is flagged, because it would be sent blank.
Example: Hi {{customer_name}}, your order {{order_number}} of {{order_total}} has shipped. Track it: {{tracking_url}} – {{store_name}}
Length and cost
The preview shows the message as it will look on a phone, plus:
- Characters and Segments — one SMS holds 160 plain characters. Longer messages are split into parts (153 characters each), and providers charge for every part.
- Encoding — Hindi, other Indian scripts and emoji fit only 70 characters per SMS (67 per part), so they cost more.
Approved and active
Only templates that are Approved and Active are sent. SMS templates are approved as soon as you save them.
MSG91 and DLT
Enter the DLT template ID (the MSG91 template linked to your DLT template). Then set the DLT variable order so the right detail goes into each ##var## slot. Use message order copies the order the variables appear in your text. The wording must match the registered DLT template.
Languages
Each template has a language, such as English (en) or Hindi (hi). A customer gets the template in their language when there is one.
Test a template
