Locked fields vs vendor overrides

Once a seller's product is linked to a master product, most of it is locked: the name, descriptions, category and photos come from the master. This keeps listings consistent.

Always editable by the seller: price, stock and their internal code.

Optionally editable (you choose in Settings → Modules → Master Products → Configure → Vendor-editable fields):

  • List price (the crossed-out MRP)
  • Free shipping flag
  • Shipping freight
  • Weight
  • Minimum and maximum order quantity

Per master product. With Allow per-master override on (default), each master product has its own Vendor-editable fields list. Leave it empty to use the store-wide setting.

Blank fields are fillable. If a master product leaves something empty (for example weight), sellers may fill it in on their offer.

Other options

  • Enforce whitelist on vendor product CREATE — off by default. When on, the limits apply even while a seller creates a new product, not only after it is linked.
  • Truncate non-whitelisted fields when linked — off by default. When on, linking immediately overwrites the seller's own name and description with the master's. When off, the seller's old text stays but they can no longer edit it.

Seller says "my change won't save". The field is locked. Either it is not in the editable list, or the master already has a value for it.
