Master vs vendor product

The master product is the shared description of an item. You own it:

  • name, short and full description;
  • category and brand;
  • photos;
  • features and specifications;
  • SKU (the code used to match sellers' products);
  • a suggested base price for reference.

The seller's product (their offer) is that seller's version of it. The seller always controls:

  • their price;
  • their stock;
  • their own internal code, which shoppers never see.

You can let sellers change more (list price, free shipping, weight, minimum or maximum order quantity) in the module settings or per master product. See Locked fields vs vendor overrides.

When you edit a master product, the name, descriptions, category and main photo update on every seller's offer. Sellers' prices and stock are never touched.

One offer per seller. A seller can have only one product linked to each master product.

When not to use a master. Handmade items, private labels, or bundles only one seller sells. Those are just normal seller products.
