Discount coupons on recovery

A reminder rule can include a discount to tempt the shopper back. By default, reminder 2 offers 5% off and reminder 3 offers 10% off.

Known problem: the reminder discount codes (they look like RECOVER-… and are shown on the page the shopper lands on) are not accepted at checkout yet — the shopper gets an "invalid coupon" message. The page the shopper lands on also says the discount "has been applied", which is not true. Until this is fixed, set Discount Type to No discount on every rule.

Turning the discount off

  1. Open Marketing → Abandoned Carts → Recovery Rules.
  2. Click the pencil on each rule that has a discount.
  3. Set Discount Type to No discount and click Save.

If you have not switched the module on yet, you can also untick Escalate with a discount under Configure first — the rules are then created without discounts.

If you want to offer a discount anyway

Create an ordinary coupon in Marketing → Promotions (for example COMEBACK5, 5% off, one use per customer) and add it to the wording of the Abandoned cart email template. Every shopper then gets the same code, which works at checkout.

How the discount fields work (once fixed)

On a rule, Discount Type can be No discount, Percentage or Fixed amount. The Discount Value box is filled in in small units:

  • Percentage: 100 = 1%. So type 500 for 5% and 1000 for 10%.
  • Fixed amount: in paise. So type 5000 for ₹50 and 10000 for ₹100.

Protecting your margin

  • Start without a discount; many shoppers come back with a plain reminder.
  • Keep discounts to the later reminders.
  • Remember the discount applies on top of any sale price.
