The recovery window

The recovery window is how long a cart must sit untouched before CartWhizz treats it as abandoned and sends the first reminder.

How the clock works

  • The clock starts when the shopper last changed their cart (added, removed or changed the quantity of a product). Just closing the browser does not reset it; coming back and changing the cart does.
  • The first reminder goes out once the cart has been quiet for the shortest delay among your active rules (4 hours by default).
  • CartWhizz checks every 15 minutes, so an email can arrive up to 15 minutes after the delay.
  • Each later reminder waits for its own delay, counted from the same starting point (24 hours, 72 hours…).

Choosing your delays

Good starting points for most Indian D2C stores:

  • Under 30 minutes — too soon. The shopper may still be comparing prices or waiting for an OTP.
  • 2 to 4 hours — the best time for the first, friendly reminder.
  • 24 hours — a second nudge.
  • 2 to 3 days — the last reminder.

If you sell high-value or B2B products that people think about for longer, double or triple these.

Changing the delays

Open Marketing → Abandoned Carts → Recovery Rules, click the pencil next to a rule and change Delay (minutes). Useful values: 60 = 1 hour, 240 = 4 hours, 1440 = 1 day, 4320 = 3 days.

The Configure settings on the module card (wait before reminder 1, 2, 3…) are only used when the rules are first created, so changing them later has no effect.

One reminder only

Untick Active on the rules you don't want. Only the active rules send.

Sending at a set time of day

Not available. Reminders go out as soon as a cart reaches its delay, at any hour.
