What is Abandoned Cart Recovery?
Many shoppers add products to their cart and then leave without paying. Abandoned Cart Recovery notices those carts and emails the shopper a short series of reminders with a link that puts the same products back in their cart.
How it works, in short:
- A shopper adds products and stops — no changes to the cart for a few hours.
- CartWhizz checks for quiet carts every 15 minutes. If the shopper is signed in, or typed their email at checkout, the cart is counted as abandoned.
- Reminder emails go out on a schedule. Out of the box there are three: after about 4 hours, 24 hours and 72 hours.
- The shopper clicks the link in the email, lands on your store with their cart refilled, and checks out.
- As soon as that shopper places an order — through any route, not only the email link — the reminders stop and the cart is counted as Recovered.
You find everything under Marketing → Abandoned Carts: the list of abandoned carts, the reminder rules, every email sent, and a funnel showing how many emails were opened, clicked and turned into orders.
Known problem — discount codes. Reminders 2 and 3 include a discount code (5% and 10% off) by default, but these codes are not accepted at checkout yet. Until this is fixed, we recommend turning the discount off (see Discount coupons on recovery).
