Getting started
1. Make sure your store can send email
Reminders are emails, so check this first:
- Set your sender name and reply address in Settings → Communications → Email Settings, and click Send Test to check emails arrive.
2. The module is on already
Abandoned Cart Recovery is on for every store unless you switch it off in Settings → Modules. Abandoned Carts is in your admin under Marketing.
Optional: on the module card in Settings → Modules, click Configure to choose how many reminders to send and how long to wait before each one.
Important: CartWhizz creates your reminder rules from these settings the first time it checks for abandoned carts. After that, changing the settings under Configure does not change the rules that already exist. To change the schedule, edit the rules in Marketing → Abandoned Carts → Recovery Rules instead.
3. Check the reminder rules
Open Marketing → Abandoned Carts → Recovery Rules. With the default settings you will see:
| Rule | Sent after | Discount |
|---|---|---|
| Reminder 1 | 4 hours | none |
| Reminder 2 (5% off) | 24 hours | 5% |
| Reminder 3 (10% off) | 72 hours | 10% |
If the list is empty, click Seed Default Rules.
Because discount codes cannot be used at checkout yet, edit Reminders 2 and 3 and set Discount Type to No discount for now.
4. Test it
- Open your store in a private (incognito) window, add a product, start checkout and enter your email address. Then close the window without ordering.
- Wait for the first reminder's delay. To test faster, edit Reminder 1 and set Delay (minutes) to 5, then put it back afterwards.
- In Abandoned Carts → Conversion Funnel, click Run Recovery Now to run the check straight away instead of waiting up to 15 minutes. The message tells you how many carts were found and how many emails were sent.
Who on your team can see it
Staff need the Abandoned Carts view permission to see the page, and the manage permission to change rules or send emails. Set these on the staff member's user group.
