Getting started
Auto Coupons is always available — there is nothing to switch on. To use it you need the promotions permission.
When rules run: the first time an order is marked Delivered or Complete. Each order is checked once, so moving it back and forth between statuses never creates a second code. Guest orders don't get codes, because a code belongs to a customer account.
Before you start
- Customers need an email address on their account. Guest orders don't get a coupon email.
- You can change the wording of the email in Settings → Communications → Email Templates → Auto Coupon.
Create your first rule
- Open Marketing → Discounts → Automatic codes and click Create Rule.
- Fill in:
- Name — for you, e.g. "Thank you — first order".
- Trigger — First Order.
- Discount Type — Percentage (%) or Fixed Amount.
- Discount Value — see the note below.
- Min Order — the smallest cart the code can be used on, in paise (e.g. 50000 = ₹500). Leave 0 for no minimum.
- Coupon Prefix — the start of each code, e.g.
THANKYOU. - Max Uses — leave at 1 so each code is used once.
- Valid Days — how long the code lasts, e.g. 30.
- Tick Send coupon via email to customer.
- Status — Active.
- Click Save.
Entering amounts: the boxes take small units. For a percentage, 100 = 1%, so type 1000 for 10%. For a fixed amount and the minimum order, type paise: 10000 = ₹100.
Test it
Place a test order as a customer with an email address, then mark the order Delivered or Complete in Sales → Orders. The code should appear under the rule in Auto Coupons and the email should be sent (check Settings → Communications → Email Logs).
