Synonyms and words to ignore
Search synonyms
Synonyms are groups of words shoppers use for the same thing. A search for any word in a group also finds products named with the others, both ways: with the group t-shirt, tshirt, tee, a search for tee finds your "Cotton T-Shirt", and red tee also looks for red t-shirt and red tshirt.

Open Settings → System → Search Management. The Search Management module must be on (Settings → Modules).

Under Search synonyms, write one group per line, with the words separated by commas:
t-shirt, tshirt, tee sofa, couch, settee mobile, phone, smartphone -
Click Save. Storefront search uses them right away.
They work in every storefront search: the suggestions as shoppers type, the search results page, Meilisearch (when your store uses it) and the WhatsApp Shop bot's product search.
- Whole words only. A synonym is used where it appears as a whole word or phrase in the search: art does not rewrite cart.
- Upper and lower case do not matter. Words are saved in lower case, repeated words in a group are dropped, and a line with only one word is ignored.
- Limits. Up to 500 groups and 60 characters per word or phrase.
- Words, not spelling. Each synonym rewrites the search, so add common misspellings as words of the group too (
kurta, kurti).
The Enable Synonyms switch on the module's Configure screen does nothing: the list above works without it.
A product's Search words
The Search words box on a product (Availability tab, Promotion card) is not a synonym list. Only the results list reads it, and only when shoppers filter by a product feature, your store hides out-of-stock products, or a category includes its subcategories; the shopping assistant's filtered search reads it too. The suggestions as shoppers type, Meilisearch and the WhatsApp bot ignore it. For words every search should know, use Search synonyms.
